Public Holidays in Uganda – About Uganda

Most of the public Holidays in Uganda are based on political and religious events and celebrations.

January 01       –       New Year’s Day

January 26       –       Liberation Day

March 08         –         International Women’s Day

April 22          –         Good Friday (changeable)

April 25          –         Easter Monday (changeable)

May 01            –        Labour Day     –   Known as the International worker’s day

June 03            –       Martyrs’ Day

June 09            –       National Heroes’ Day

October 09      –        Independence Day

December 25   –        Christmas Day

December 26   –        Boxing Day

In addition to the above fixed public holidays, Uganda also recognizes as holidays, the Muslim Eid-el-Fitr and Eid-el –Adha. On such days most government organizations and offices are closed and so are banking institutions, however most shops and local services function as normal.

Other days celebrated in Uganda but not declared public day-off include;
